The Judd S. Alexander Foundation
Inc. was founded in 1973 by Anne M. Alexander to continue the philanthropy
of the pioneering Wausau Alexander Family.
"Alexander" is one of the foremost names
in the famous "Wausau Group" of far-sighted entrepreneurs
who were instrumental in converting Wausau from a one-industry (lumbering)
village into a widely-diversified and thriving city.
Scotland born Walter Alexander and his sons, Judd
and Ben, played key roles in founding and guiding many an area enterprise
-- everything from developing quality dairy herds to papermaking!
One or more of the Alexanders were major figures in the Alexander-Stewart
Lumber Company, Mosinee and Marathon Paper Mills, Marathon Electric
Mfg. Company, Wausau Insurance, MDU Resources, Alexander Park--
even the Wausau Pubic Library and Wausau's first airport, Alexander
